5 days tour from Marrakech to Merzougua desert
Tour M6: Marrakech - Dades - Merzouga - Erg-Chebbi - Ouarzazate
Day 1 : Marrakech high Atlas – Ait Benhadou – Ouarzazate – Kalaat Magouna – Dades Valley
I will pick you up at 8:00 am. We will start our journey by travelling across Tizi-N-Tishka atlas pass (ALT 2260m) with an amazing views across the mountains to visit the UNESCO world heritage site “ Ait Ben Hadou Kasbah “ , Kasbah is a collection of clay buildings. The Kasbah is surrounded by a protective high thick wall against external attacks with many towers in. We have lunch there, and then we drive to the city of roses: Kalaat Magouna. We cross the rose valley and make a stop at roses cooperative to see how they produce various products from roses like shampoo, soap, and perfume… Then we continue to Dades Gorges where we spend the night in a riad /hotel.
Day 2 : Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzougua Desert
After breakfast, our journey will start at 8:00 am, many Berber buildings are scattered along the way. The first destination will be Todra Gorges; it’s a water canyon. It is the first destination for Moroccan mountaineering enthusiasts, then we move to have lunch in Tinjdad city. After lunch we drive and make a very important stop at the Berber shop so that you get your turbans. Afterward we head directly through Erfoud city (desert gateway) to the Sahara Desert of Merzougua, and we go to the place where you will be taken by camels to an immaculate equipped camp. This camel trek is an hour and half long. When you get there, an atmosphere of sunset is waiting. In addition to this, the golden dunes that flatter both the sunset and the sunrise even more. Dinner will be held in front of the tent where you’ll spend the night around an astonishing environment while stars are gleaming on the sky. Then you enjoy a traditional Berber drum band.
Day 3 : Merzougua – Erg Chebbi – and camel trekking
After breakfast in the camp, you will start your explorative journey in Sahara desert. Beginning with 4*4 tour by visiting the tribe of dark-skinned people whose ancestors were slave long ago, they are of various African origins: Sudan, Mali, Senegal… They came along to settle in Morocco to practice their exotic and fabulous music and lifestyle. Later, we drive to meet Nomad families who live inside Berber tents so as to know their way of living. Regarding our lunch, it will be a traditional Berber meal (Berber pizza) with a local family.. Then our destination will be in the village of the mines, along with the local nomadic Berber families who still live in the desert, and then we drive to the black desert (volcanic stones). We will go back to Merougua to take an hour quad bike drive on the dunes, and then you’ll be carried by camels or 4×4 to your camp in the middle of golden dunes. During the night, there is a band drumming around a lit fire.
Day 4 : Merzougua - Ouarzazate
Before sunrise, you will be woken up to go up the sand dunes for fantastic photos opportunity. You
have the option also to visit Rissani Town; the foundation of Alaouite dynasty from which the current ruling royal family descended. Then we will have a walk through its open Market. We continue our journey to Ouarzazate, passing through Alnif, Tazzarine, Nkob, and the Draa Valley. We will spend the night in a hotel/riad in Ouarzazate.
Day 5 : Ouarzazate ---Marrakech
After breakfast, The final day starts at 9:00 am. We will visit the atlas studio where most American
movies scenes were filmed such as “Gladiator” , “Laurence of Arabia “ and “Game of Thrones“ .then
we go through the majestic Tizi-Ntishka pass, reaching an altitude of 2260m over the high Atlas
mountains. We will stop to enjoy the impressive views and have lunch. We will arrive in Marrakech
by the afternoon at 04:00 pm.
