morocco-537761_1280

Volubilis is an ancient Punic city dating to approximately the third century BC. It is one of the most visited archeological sites of Morocco and North Africa. Considered as UNESCO world heritage since 1997, the site is located 33 kilometers north of Meknes, one of the four imperial cities of Morocco. and not far from Moulay Driss town, the birthplace of the Idrissids dynasty, founders of the Moroccan state. Due to its critical position in the center of the country, it was the subject of power dispute for all the civilizations that ruled morocco. That’s a bonus for history lovers as they can witness the punic, roman, and Islamic marks in the well-preserved ruins of the ancient city. The forum, the basilica, the temple of Jupiter, the baths, the Arch of Caracalla, and the beautiful mosaics are examples of what you can see there. (Guided visit is optional).
